One of our clients, Resources for Community Development (RCD) has been racking up the awards this past year. While we can’t say it was the photography that won the awards, we’d like to think that the photos we provided played a part. Three projects in particular are of note, Fox Courts in Oakland, Shinsei Gardens in Alameda and Oxford Plaza in Berkeley. These three projects together won the ACTERRA Business Environmental Award for a Sustainably Built project. These projects also won GreenPoint Rated Certification from Build It Green. Fox Court placed as a finalist for the Affordable Housing Finance Readers’ Choice Awards and took a Gold Nugget for Green Communities. Shinsei obtained LEED Platinum certification and also took an AIA Design Merit award for architect Mikiten Architects. Shinei and Oxford were finalists in the San Francisco Business Times Best Affordable Residential housing in the East Bay. The list goes on. Affordable housing is no longer the non-descript boxes of the 1960s. Modern facilities include lush couryards, public gardens and play areas and pleasing designs. I think it would be fun to live in one of these facilities. We’ve been working with RCD for over eight years and we’ve photographed a number of their projects, and it’s always a delight to see what can happen with creativity and the right resources come together to create housing.
